Dapper on a Dime

Written by Peter Cortez

Oct 11 — October is here which means the Fall season is in full effect.  With that in mind, you should have already locked away your Spring and Summer clothes and have started to bring out your Fall garments.  No more linen, cotton, seersucker, or chambray fabrics and bright colors.

What you should be moving to are fabrics such as wool, tweed, corduroy, and cashmere.  You may not have these types of threads in your wardrobe and they can be a bit pricey if you’re looking to purchase new clothes.

However, if you’re a student, you’re in luck.  There are many retailers out there that give student discounts which makes it easier for students to stay up to date with the latest trends.  Most students don’t have disposable income so any type of discount is always much appreciated.

Student discounts can be found online or at the checkout counter (with valid student ID) of your favorite retailer.  The following are just a few of some of the hottest name brands that offer student discounts. enjoy!

Polo Ralph Lauren – 15% off total purchase

Ralph Lauren represents classic American fashion.  Their clothes are very preppy with classic tailoring and extremely comfortable fabrics.  With 15% off your total purchase, you’ll be able to pinch every penny in your pocket by combining it with any additional discounts that may be going on in store. J.Crew – 15% off total purchase

J.Crew is another staple for classic American fashion.  Their slim tailoring and durable garments make it hard not to want to buy everything in the store.  Like Ralph Lauren, the discount can be combined on top of sale items.

Levis – 15% off

Levis has dependable denim that comes in various fits and sizes to choose from.  The 15% discount cannot be combined with additional discounts throughout the store so be smart in your purchases.

Topman – 10% off (*requires registration w/ UNiDays)

Topman is a British company that has tons of different styles to choose from on their online store and will be opening a store in the Houston Galleria sometime in Spring 2015.  Their British roots ooze out in their designs but that’s definitely not something to complain about.

ASOS – 10% off (*requires registration w/ UNiDays)

ASOS is another company that originates from the U.K.  Their clothes are already very affordable and with an extra 10% off, you’ll be able to make a couple of extra purchases.

Banana Republic – 20% off

Banana Republic offers a very generous discount to students but this does not apply on top of sale items.  Also, the discount does not apply to GAP and Old Navy stores even though they are the same company.

Club Monaco – 20% off

Owned by Ralph Lauren but operated as its own,  Club Monaco has clothes with great American style but this is probably the priciest of the brands that are mentioned in this article. At 20%, I’m sure you’ll be able to find something worthwhile. (View map below for store locations)
