This coffee shop at the corner of Alba and 34th serves as a tranquil respite from the daily grind. The ambiance and geniality of the staff is such a great complement to Garden Oaks/Oak Forest area’s ubiquitous “laid back” charm.
Slowpokes was started by Juan Carlos Rubiralta (Levure Bakery) and Mazen Baltagi (Christian’s Tailgate and the upcoming gastrolounge Chapman & Kirby in EaDo).
As one would expect from veteran restaurateurs such as Rubiralta and Baltagi, you’ll find a good selection of wine, loose leaf tea, coffee, craft beer, and baked goods from mostly locally-sourced, quality vendors. And the baristas excel at whipping up spontaneous coffee-creations for the indecisive.
Slowpokes pièce de résistance is their very spacious pea-gravel patio that, in addition to being a chill spot to sip drinks al fresco , is the prime venue for hosting various food trucks, movie nights and other special events.
This really is a great place to slow down when life gets a little too fast.
