Elena & Los Fulanos, a bilingual Latin folk band based in Washington, DC., played an in-store performance at Cactus Music. A melodic mix of folkloric guitar and Latin rhythm with socially consciousness undertones throughout, we definitely hope Elena considers making more stops to Houston in the not-too-distant future.

Since 2011, they have been making music that ranges from twangy, heartbreak-themed folk rock, to soothing, introspective, violin-infused cumbia. Influenced by front-woman Elena Lacayo’s experience growing up in two cultures (Nicaraguan and American), Elena & Los Fulanos’ music melds language and tradition with catchy melodies and inventive chords to enhance appreciation for diversity in an increasingly multi-cultural world.
